Connie L. Atley
May 9, 1937 - September 6, 2020
On September 06, 2020, the Lord entered the hospital and took hold of her hands; she stood up, and they locked arms. Then the Lord said, “Daughter it’s time to go”. “I have never left you nor forsaken you, so I am placing you on the road to Eternity, follow it until the final Resurrection.”
Connie L. Atley was born in West Chester, PA., May 09, 1937 to the late Edith C. Bostic Glasco and Everett W. Glasco Sr. She was one of eight siblings: five predeceased, Everett W. Glasco Sr. (Jake), Lois Benbow, Gloria M. Saunders, Evelyn Glasco, and Orville H. Glasco (Duke). Two brothers remaining to cherish her memory are Alfonso V. Glasco of Tampa, FL and Robert Anthony Glasco of Hawaii. Also, four sister-in-laws, Juanita, Brenda, Jean, and Eleanor.
Connie spent most of her life in Kennett Square, PA, she then relocated to Fort Myers, Florida. She graduated from Kennett Square Consolidated High School, class of 1956. She was employed by the Embreevile State Hospital as a clothing clerk, from which she retired. She then went on to obtain certification as a CNA (certified nursing assistant), and was employed by Kendal Crosslands, Kennett Square, PA, retiring after 26 years.
As a child Connie attended Sunday School at Bethel AME Church. In 1973 she joined Christ Temple Church (Greater Works Ministries) under Elder David Dupree. During this time she sang with the Inspirational Gospel Choir, as well as a member of the Usher and Missionary boards. Upon moving to Fort Myers, Florida, she joined the House of Prayer Apostolic Church, under Pastor Judy Sykes, becoming a member of the Missionary board, and the Outreach Club. Connie was known for bringing forth praise through song, as well as being a prayer warrior. Connie’s ministry was truly one of “Helps”. When visiting in Pennsylvania she would attend church with her family at Galilee UAME Church (Reverend Sondra Taylor, Pastor) gladly giving a song or prayer when called upon.
Connie was joined into holy matrimony November 23, 1957 to the late Charles L. Atley Sr., sharing 54 years of marriage. From this union were five sons: Charles L. Atley Jr. “Kip” of Fort Myers, FL, twins Jeffrey Allen Atley Sr. of New York and Joseph Aaron Atley of Memphis, TN., Steven N. Atley (predeceased), and Anthony Wayne Atley “Pepe" of Houston, TX. Also, six grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Cousins, Ellen Mayo and Janet Wilson (deceased); and friends Peggy Jarmon and Aquilla Boyce were very near and dear to her throughout her life.
Connie enjoyed traveling the world, visiting/spending time with her “PA” family, and buying hats. Connie joined the Senior Center making several impressive ceramics and aprons, giving them to others as gifts. In addition she belonged to “JUGS” (Just Us Girls); and was a regular contributor to the Cancer Society.
While serving the Lord, Connie found Joy, Peace, and Serenity, she had an infectious laugh. She was stubborn at times and also stern at times, but was one of the most loving, kindhearted individuals to grace this world. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints......Psalm 116:15.
